okay this is clearly aimed but yall can listen to these too cause they are fire. lyriq you have to listen to the cardigans. and no this couldnt be a dm, i need to write about my love for these albums.
the cardigans is so poetic and theres always messages behind the writing. one thing that you may notice is as the years go by, the songs are less poetic and more straight forward. for example, one album that isnt on here, that comes after "the first band on the moon" called gran turismo, which majority of the songs are basically just straight up saying "i hate you" whereas the old ones gave explanation through word play to describe the actions and words hand picked to display how she feels. anyway i wanna start now
Emmerdale (1994)
one thing i wanna start off with is how genuinely every song recommendation i get is from women. genuinely any recommendation from men is trash, but anyways. sadly, the one who recommended me this doesnt even recognise the poetry behind the songs. I really cant describe genres, so i just searched this up: pop rock sounds about right.
they really blend together a bunch of different instruments, mainly the flute, to create beautiful melodies. I think the best example is "seems hard". The outro always gets me its so good and chaotic.
"over the water" sounds all about cheating. "cause its all falling down, trot away and around, because your ships are found, somewhere over the water, next to a harbour, someones eager to listen" like i guess maybe not but its like your lover is found elsewhere at someone elses house like ITS SO INDIRECT BUT IT LANDS (or im stupid)
and cloudy sky I JUST GET. THE EMPHASIS ON "FOR YOU, JUST YOU" ITS LIKE UGH JUST UNDERSTAND. its all about loving someone who doesnt believe you. you try so hard but they just want the rain. they want to be in pain and they want it to be caused by you, no matter how much you do for them to be happy, they will always want to be miserable with you. IVE BEEN THERE.
Life (1995)
Life is definitely far more romantic. it has a plot behind it to some degree, too. its about some sort of carnival coming to a town. Its also more direct, but still sounds really beautiful.
"Carnival" is definitely one of my favs. Its not very poetic, but the melody and the lyrics are just so good. honestly shes just such a good singer, too. its VERY romantic.
"Gordons gardenparty" is such a vibe. cocktails in the evening sun? give me one. its a description of falling in love with this guy at a garden party. what hes drinking, chatting and them all having the time of their lives. once again, very romantic song.
"Travelling with charley" IS JUST SO GOOD TOO. this ones a little less on the nose, because its about dating someone you dont really love, and cheating, of course. this guy cant help but love her. she thinks he would be nothing without her, and basically has him around her finger.
"sunday circus song" sounds so good, its back on the whole carnival thing. it sounds so good, and its all about this lil guy who LOVES sundays, and every place his circus stays of course. hes a lil sad too but thats okay because everyone loves his show
First Band on the Moon (1996)
Im sure y'all already know "lovefool" and "step on me" blah blah blah THERES OTHER GOOD SONGS TOO (those are my favs though) AND THIS ONE IS MORE DIRECT STILL YET I LOVE THE MEANINGS. a lot of the songs really revolve around heart break besides Happy Meal II (dont ask about the first, idk where it is) also they made a cover for "iron man", as in the black sabbath one, they also have one in emmerdale i forgot to write about, but its a cover for "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath". They aren't the same as the originals, its very strange but cool because its like their own version or something.
ANYWAY to start off, "Been it" is so good too. its about basically being everything for a manchild (noticing a pattern yet?) yet still he isnt satisfied. you do EVERYTHING but no matter what, he isnt satisfied. like ive been your mother, ive been your father, who could ask me for more? ive been your sister, been your mistress, maybe i was your whore. UGH.
"Heartbreaker" is about a woman who sleeps around, feeling fulfilled by it and basically having a very twisted version of love. its about the abuse she goes through and how basically it sucks. its a really sad song, mainly because its from the girls point of view, therefore its romanticized and its SO POETIC i mean thats not probably the right term but you get what i mean i love the writing.
"never recover" is all about waiting and wishing for love and how its basically a waste of time. "and the hero never dies, if the lover hides between the sheets" LIKE MOVE ON AND STUFF and dont wait for love dont wait for anything cause you'll "never recover". coolest name drop ever thanks
"step on me" yeah yeah wanting to love someone but they step all over you and you let it happen. ITS SO GOOD THOUGH. you'll break the foot that im standing on, i'll walk with the other one" making so many compromises for someone who doesnt even entirely love you its just so good. its so sad but so good.
"lovefool" yes we know love me love me say that you love me fool me fool me go on and fool me pretend that you love me WE KNOW THE MEANING IM SURE. but its good so. yeah.
I've found that this album gets darker than the others, but i love it. after these albums, theres nothing else. ignore it. we dont talk about "favourite game" and all that terrible, terrible shit. sorry the cardigans but thats ASS. please listen to these three or else
step on me and lovefool... oh my dearest ones my personal anthems... emmerdale starts off strongt listening right now
